Journey to J.D., a new academic summer program at The University of Kansas School of Law, is an innovative program that provides current Kansas high school sophomores from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to learn more about the legal profession. Although all students from Kansas are invited to apply, this pilot program is aimed at select high schools, including Lawrence High School and Free State High School. Journey to J.D. will be June 6-12, 2010, held at the KU campus and all students will be housed in the residence halls. One of the program's goals is to encourage students from all socioeconomic backgrounds to participate. The only cost to the student for this week long program is a $50 nonrefundable deposit. It is hoped DCBA members will 1) help promote this opportunity to eligible students and 2) become a sponsor of the program. For more information, visit www.law.ku.edu/journeytojd.

DCBA Speaker's Bureau. The Douglas County Bar Association and the Douglas County Criminal Defense Bar made a determination some time ago to establish a speaker’s bureau to provide informational programs on the law and justice system to civic groups or any organization that wishes to hear from us.

Anyone who is interested in participating as a speaker should let us know by contacting Kate at Collister and Kampschroeder at <collkamp@sbcglobal.net> or at 842-3126 or by fax at 842-3878. All of the requirements set out above are mandatory. We will not consider any volunteer who fails to completely provide the requested information.
